Team Spotlight Playlist: Three

You guessed it ... our Friday playlist is back ... on a Friday ... SURPRISE!! But you know what isn't repetitive? Our picks for this week.  Check them out below!

Nakamara - Hiatus Kaiyote

I first heard about this artist from a recommendation from my friend. I instantly fell in love with their soulful, full, and groovy sound. I realized that Drake sampled them in his song, "Free Smoke: from his most recent album while listening to Haitus Kaiyote's songs! Carissa Estilo

Touch - Shura

This was one of those rare finds i happened upon on Soundcloud 2 years ago before Shura's music was even available for purchase/download anywhere else. It came up as suggested and it instantly became one of my favorite songs. Last year Shura opened for M83 and the rest is basically history! This one's on the playlist this week in honor of the fact that I can now listen to it is as much as I want on Spotify! Tanya Gupta

Brazil - Declan McKenna

Declan McKenna won Glastonbury festival's Emerging Talent award with this song back in 2015, and has been writing fantastic, often politically charged indie songs ever sine. Despite being just 18, McKenna's songwriting skills surpass many already. I'm excited to see where his career goes in future! Quinn Roberston

Avant Gardener - Courtney Barnett

Reminiscent of work by one of my other faves, CAKE, is deadpan yet witty in a spoken-word half-poem-half-song. A perfect soundtrack to a much-needed "me-day," the entire album "A Sea of Split Peas" is a worthwhile listen if you like one wordplay with your acoustic rock-pop. Jo Dimatteo

Undertow - Dan Auerbach

I discovered this song and ultimately Dan Auerbach walking through a record shop last weekend with my sister. I heard the instrumentals through the speakers of the shop and was immediately hooked. Side Note: Apparently snapchat has a feature similar to Shazam because my sister figured out the song name for me. P.S. Dan Auerbach used to be apart of the Black Keys, another reason for you to listen to this song.  Laura Ahmetaj

Team Spotlight Playlist: Two

The Curtain Call team is back with another weekly spotlight playlist. Get to know us a bit better and see what songs we have on repeat at the moment. Let us know what song you have had on repeat and maybe we will feature you on next weeks playlist!

Concrete & Clay  - Unit 42

I took a film class my senior year of high school, and we watched ‘Rushmore’ by Wes Anderson. It was one of my favorite films, mostly because of the movie soundtrack, and this is one of my favorite songs from the album. Carissa Estilo

Pork Soda – Glass Animals

Glass Animals is my favorite band at the moment, and their “How to Be A Human Being” has a really interesting sound. Their music is like a magical symphony to the senses. Am I being dramatic? Probably. Just listen to them, trust me. Tanya Gupta

Third of May / Ōdaigahara

Third of May was released as a single a few months ago, teasing the long awaited studio albumCrack-Up from Fleet Foxes, notably marking the end of a four year hiatus. The song’s imagery, calling upon the Goya painting from which the name is drawn, is as fascinating as it is poignant – and of course, all such messages are cushioned in a blend of lush acoustic melodies only Fleet Foxes could deliver. Jo Dimatteo

Rich Friends – Portugal. The Man

In the endless search for 2017’s summer anthem, I came across Rich Friends after seeing them live at Terminal 5. It’s on their new album, Woodstock, which was released June 16th. Curtain Call could also use some really, really rich friends – and by that, I mean investors ;). Quinn Robertson

She's Moving On - Cape Lion

I don't know what she's moving on from but this song makes me wish I was moving on so I could sing this song out on the top of my lungs with some purpose - between you and me I still do. The unique instrumentals on this track got me hooked! Would rate: 10/10. Laura Ahmetaj

Word on the Street: Watermelon

Hello, World!

Hey guys, we are back with another installment of WOTS! We are continuing with the summer theme, we bring you Watermelon! Nothing says summer more than biting into a piece of watermelon and the juice running down your chin. Sit back, relax,  and eat some watermelon as you give this playlist a listen. Each song is definitely unique and has its own vibe. Maybe they'll give you some inspiration for your own music.

This playlist is a quick one. To our surprise there weren't many songs named watermelon. Maybe we should give our partner artists a nudge in the right direction.

Comment below what you think about this playlist. Got some summery words for next week? We will gladly take suggestions.

See you back here next Wednesday for Word on the Street.

Curtain Call Team Spotlight Playlist: One

Hello, World!

Curtain Call is presenting you with yet another weekly playlist. This playlist will occur every Friday and will contain a song suggested by each Curtain Call Team member and why they chose it. We are looking forward to sharing our music with you and hopefully you'll get to learn a little more about the team. Let us know what you think about our picks and which ones were your favorite!

Melt Tonight  - The Oracles

I love a good retro sound, especially when a modern band produces something new with that familiar old-timey vibe. Melt Tonight (and the Oracles’ music in general) does exactly that. ~*Tip*~: Check out the music Video. Trippy as hell.  Tanya Gupta

I Cut Like a Buffalo – The Dead Weather

I don’t know exactly what it means to “cut like a buffalo,” but for me, that’s all the more to love this funky jam. Nonsense holds a special place in my heart, having grown up on Zappa, The Beatles, and maybe too much Spongebob, being able to experience wonderment – at its root, a feeling of not knowing what is happening in front of you – is one of my favorite things in life, and this song really speaks to that.  Jo Dimatteo

Navajo - Masego

I saw a video on Facebook of Masego and FKJ at Red Bull Studios in Paris improving a song together and I was blown away. I’ve heard some of Masego’s songs before so I decided to check more of his stuff out, and I have been playing this funky and chill single nonstop!! Carissa Estilo

Legend Has It – Run the Jewels

I saw RTJ live at Terminal 5 a few months ago, and this was definitely a standout song. The energy at their show is amazing. This song was recently featured in the trailer for Marvel’s Black Panther! Quinn Roberston

Oceans Away – A R I Z O N A

I discovered A R I Z O N A sometime in January when I heard their song Cross My Mind. I was scrolling through Spotify when I found Ocean’s Away. It’s the perfect song to go for a drive on a Summer Night. It gives off a chill vibe and having the windows down doesn’t hurt either. Laura Ahmetaj

Word on the Street: Beach

Hello, World!

The Curtain Call team  is starting a new weekly playlist on Wednesdays. This playlist will be unconventional in which it will be showcasing a small selections of songs with the same title. What is the cue word for these titles you may ask? Well you'll have to tune in every Wednesday and give it a look.

As for this week, in honor of the start of the summer the word on the street is "beach." This playlist was surprisingly cohesive in sound. Comment what you think or any ideas you have for Word on the Street. Listen Away!
